Welcome!

A warm welcome to Belly Dance!

I hope that you are beginning to discover the joy and inner contentment that Belly Dance can bring. This ancient art form has captured the spirit and imagination of poets and artists throughout history. Belly Dance was practised by both women and men. It was used in temple dance, intimate celebrations of women in seclusion, secular entertainment, and in preparation for childbirth.

While most of us do not necessarily learn Belly Dance to dance in temples, we do however find a sacredness in the dance itself that reminds us in some way of the sacredness of Life. And so it is we carry on the tradition of this dance.

Belly Dance was brought to us by the travelling Roma who left India around the 11th Century. Passing through many countries and various cultures it began to evolve, and centuries later we now see this culmination of traditions in an art form that is unique unto itself. It portrays the many faces of life.

From America to Asia, Europe to Australia, Africa to the United Kingdom, the heartfelt melody of Belly Dance calls to us. May we forever dance in her embrace.
